42-year-old Roger Wayne Derl Propst, who is listed as a homeless person from Hickory, was arrested by Hickory Police shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday (June 25) on charges of kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, a domestic violation protection order with a deadly weapon, first-degree burglary, first-degree rape, possession of stolen goods, simple assault, second-degree trespass and assault with a deadly weapon.
The incident leading to Propst's arrest was described by Police as a domestic incident. He and the victim, a female from southwest Hickory, had a previous relationship, though the nature of that relationship is unclear. The victim did have a domestic violence protection order against Propst.
Propst allegedly assaulted the victim at her residence with what was described by Police as some sort of edged weapon. The victim was taken to Frye Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. She was still in the hospital as of 7 p.m. yesterday.
Three of the misdemeanor charges against Propst are from previous incidents. All the other charges come in connection to yesterday’s alleged assault. Propst allegedly took the victim’s bicycle, resulting in the stolen property charge.
Propst was arrested without incident a few blocks from the crime scene and placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $413,900 secured bond. Court dates were set for June 27 and July 10.
