Manhunt Underway for McDowell County Parole Absconder

McDowell Co. Sheriff’s Deputies are currently conducting a manhunt for 24-year-old Joseph Gentry Mills of South Sunny Grove Road in Nebo. Mills is listed as a felony parole absconder.

At approximately 9:45 this morning (June 24), Deputies went to Mills’ residence to serve him with warrants. Mills fled. After a brief vehicle chase, the suspect wrecked his car and ran into the woods in the Tatertown Loop area.

Mills is described as a white male, 5’11” tall, weighing 209 pounds. He has hazel eyes, brown hair and multiple tattoos.

Mills is on parole following a June 2013 conviction in McDowell County for felony larceny, felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor assault on a female.

Residents of the Tatertown Loop area are advised to be alert and cautious. Citizens should report any suspicious activity or sightings to the 9-1-1 communications center at 828-652-4000.
