23-year-old Daniel Logan Hibbitts of Alfalfa Street in Conover was arrested by Hickory Police at about three o’clock yesterday afternoon (June 23) on five felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense.
He was arrested in connection to an incident that was discovered on June 3 when a 53-year-old male victim from Hickory noticed some charges on his People’s Bank statement that he didn’t make. His card was used four times for a total of approximately $800 in fraudulent purchases. The victim filed a report with Hickory Police on June 6.
Hibbitts was identified as the suspect as the result of surveillance video taken at a local Wilco-Hess gas station and at the Cupboard Express store on 16th Street N.E. in Hickory.
He turned himself in at H.P.D. headquarters yesterday and was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond. Hibbitts will make a first appearance in District Court tomorrow in Newton.
