28-year-old Crystal Marie Hughes and 32-year-old Kyle Blackburn Brown, both of U.S. Highway 70 West in Morganton were arrested by Hickory Police late Wednesday morning. Hughes was charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, while Brown was charged with misdemeanor resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer. He was also charged on an outstanding warrant with a misdemeanor probation violation.
They were arrested after Officers approached subjects in the parking lot at a retail store on 21st Street Drive S.E. in reference to a possible shoplifting case. Hughes was arrested after Police found 2.9 grams of methamphetamine. According to H.P.D.’s arrest report, she also had a knife on her person at the time of her arrest.
Both suspects were placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond for Hughes set at $5,000, secured, while Brown was given an $18,000 secured bond. Neither suspect remained in custody as of this afternoon. Hughes was scheduled to appear in District Court today (August 9) in Newton. Brown has a District Court date tomorrow in Morganton.
