54-year-old Michael Douglas Porter of Icard Ridge Road in Taylorsville was arrested Tuesday (July 10) by Alexander County Sheriff's Officers. He's charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon on emergency personnel.
On Tuesday at approximately 5:30 p.m., Alexander County Communications received a grass fire call outside a residence on Icard Ridge Road in the Bethlehem Community. The Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the fire. Upon arrival, the firemen heard a loud pop and later learned that a man who lived across the street had discharged a firearm in their direction.
The firemen told the occupant of the property to go back into his residence, and retreated to the fire truck, where they radioed for law enforcement backup. Deputies from the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office responded to the backup request, and they located the suspect.
Porter was transported to the Alexander County Detention Center, where he was placed under a $20,000 secured bond. A first appearance in District Court is scheduled for July 16. The investigation is continuing.
