A suspect in a Burke County shooting has been arrested. 63-year-old Sanford "Gary" Clark of Hartland Road in Morganton was arrested Tuesday (July 10) by Caldwell County Sheriff's Officers on charges from Burke County. He's charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and felony probation violation out of county.
He's charged in connection to an incident that occurred July 1 at 3100 Mariposa Lane in Morganton. The victim, a male resident of Granite Falls, was found by police suffering from gunshot wounds. He was treated at the scene by Burke County EMS and the Chesterfield Fire Department before eventually being flown to CMC Charlotte for further treatment.
Caldwell County Sheriff Alan Jones received information about Clark’s location Tuesday and the suspect surrendered to Caldwell County Deputies without resistance. He did have a handgun in his pocket when he was arrested. Clark was transferred to a Burke County Deputy at the Burke/Caldwell County line.
He was detained in the Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $115,000.00 secured bond. A District Court appearance on the assault charge was scheduled today (July 11). A Superior Court date on the probation violation charge is set for August 13.
