19-year-old Yunior Salazar, Jr. of Overlook Drive in Newton and 34-year-old Victor Manuel Narvaez of 4th Street S.E. in Hickory were both arrested by Hickory Police at about 10:45 last night (July 9). Salazar was charged with felony counts of possession with intent to sell a schedule II controlled substance and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance, plus misdemeanor counts of possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, carrying a concealed gun and driving while license revoked. Narvaez faces one misdemeanor count of possession of a schedule VI controlled substance.
They were arrested after Hickory Police stopped a 2000 Subaru Legacy at a gas station & convenience store on Highway 70 S.E. During the incident, the driver, Yunior Salazar, Jr., was served with several outstanding warrants. Officers also found 31.0 grams of marijuana, resulting in the misdemeanor drug charges against Salazar and his passenger, Victor Manuel Narvaez.
Both men were taken into custody without incident. Salazar was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $2,500, secured. Narvaez was processed and released under a $1,000 unsecured bond. Salazar was scheduled to make a first appearance in District Court today in Newton. Narvaez is due in court on August 21.
