36-year-old Kelvin Anthony Dula of 18th Avenue N.E. in Hickory and 30-year-old Deron William Norwood, Jr. of Plaza Street in Lenoir were both arrested by Hickory Police yesterday afternoon (June 12).
Dula was charged with one felony count each of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a schedule II controlled substance, plus misdemeanor counts of possession of schedule II & schedule IV controlled substances. Norwood faces one felony count each of possession of heroin and possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine, along with six misdemeanor counts of failure to appear. He failed to appear in court on charges that include two counts of assault on a female and one count of larceny. Both men were charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana up to half an ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to H.P.D.’s arrest reports, Dula was armed with a handgun at the time of his arrest. Norwood was in possession of 1.2 grams of heroin, 11.8 grams of meth and 2.3 grams of marijuana.
The suspects were taken into custody without incident at a hotel on Fairgrove Church Road S.E. They were both placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond for Dula set at $33,000, secured, while Norwood was given a $22,000 secured bond. First appearances in District Court were scheduled today in Newton.
