Charges against 62-year-old Shelley Lovin Heafner of Buffalo Shoals Road in Lincolnton have been dropped. Ms. Heafner had been facing child abduction charges after she fled yesterday (June 11) with her eight-month-old granddaughter.

Today, a Lincoln Co. District Court judge not only dropped the child abduction charge, but the woman was also granted an emergency custody order to keep the child.

Ms. Heafner, who is the child’s grandmother, had been babysitting the child. She left after learning that the child’s biological mother (Rebecca Stanley) planned to pick up the child and would arrive with the child’s father, who was recently released from jail. The grandmother refused to return the child and left the scene.

The child is safe and remains in the care of her grandmother. No additional charges are expected.
