51-year-old Billy Craven Kerns of Conover was convicted today (June 10) in Catawba Co. Criminal Superior Court on two counts each of breaking & entering and felony larceny. He was also convicted of habitual breaking & entering. Kerns was sentenced to no less than 44 months and no more than 65 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction.
The crimes occurred in July 2013 and November 2013 in Catawba County and involved two commercial break-ins. Kerns was caught as the result of security footage taken at one of the businesses, follow-up by concerned citizens and the recovery of stolen items at a local pawnshop.
Deputy Sheriff A.T. Stout and Deputy Sheriff J. McIntosh with the Catawba Co. Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation and Assistant District Attorney Brenda Brewer prosecuted the case. The Honorable Yvonne Mims Evans presided over the convictions.
Kerns will be transported to the Division of Adult Correction for processing.
