The Caldwell County Board of Education has unanimously selected Dr. Donald W. Phipps as the next superintendent for Caldwell County Schools. Dr. Phipps will take office on July 1 of this year.
During the search process, the Board reviewed applications from a diverse field of 24 candidates. Board Chairman Darrell Pennell says the Board chose Dr. Phipps for his leadership, experience and dedication to students.
Dr. Phipps’ career in public education has spanned over 20 years in North Carolina. Since 2010, he has served as superintendent for Beaufort County Schools. Prior to that, Dr. Phipps served as Executive Director of Student Services for Cumberland County Schools (2007-2010) and as an assistant principal and principal in Cumberland County (2001-2006). He began his career in public education as a school psychologist in Fayetteville. Dr. Phipps also served as Department Chair for the Computer Information Systems program at Pfeiffer University.
Dr. Phipps holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Methodist College. He earned a master’s degree in school psychology from Appalachian State University and a master’s degree in computer instructional systems from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dr. Phipps also earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Appalachian State University.
He is married to Nancy Phipps. Together, they have four children and one granddaughter.
