This spring, Mitchell Gold donated $36,000 worth of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams furniture to Lenoir-Rhyne University, helping to refurnish the P.E. Monroe Auditorium lobby. The 31 pieces include couches, tables & chairs, rugs and benches.

Barbara Dugan, the wife of LR’s former Business Department Chair Michael Dugan, put the process in motion when she approached Gold to discuss buying furniture to refurbish the auditorium’s outdated décor. The auditorium was built in 1957.

The new furniture makes use of chrome and glass for its modern classic look, replacing the oak and green leather mission-style couches. High-backed chairs now sit beside silver-enameled sections of tree trunks that have been re-purposed as pull-up tables.

Mr. Gold has had ties with Lenoir-Rhyne since 2005 and took part in the university’s Visiting Writers Series in 2009.
