Hickory Man Accused in South Center Street Shooting

42-year-old Joe Lewis White of 12th Street N.E. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police at about 4:40 p.m. yesterday (April 15) on one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of firearm by a felon, plus one misdemeanor count of communicating threats.

On April 14, Hickory Police responded to a reported shooting at the A&W Mini-Mart on South Center Street in Hickory. Upon arrival, Officers found a 48-year-old black male victim from Hickory who had sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The suspect, Joe Lewis White, turned himself in at the Hickory Police Department the following day.

White was taken into custody without incident and placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $25,000 secured bond. He has since been released. An appearance in District Court was scheduled today in Newton.
