63-year-old Lowry Eric Whetstone of Welton Way in Mooresville was arrested by Hickory Police at about 9:20 yesterday morning (March 12) on a felony warrant as a fugitive awaiting extradition to another state. The warrant for his arrest is a Governor's Warrant, which is a formal request from the demanding state asking North Carolina’s governor to issue a warrant authorizing the fugitive to be held until he or she is picked up by officials from the demanding state.
Whetstone is wanted in Adams County, Pennsylvania where he was charged with felony theft by deception. The warrant was issued by the Gettysburg Pennsylvania State Police for an offense that occurred in April of 2014.
Whetstone was previously arrested in Hickory on a fugitive warrant on November 26 of last year following a larceny call at the Target store on Catawba Valley Boulevard. He was also arrested on January 8 of this year when Police responded to a shoplifting call at the Walmart store on Highway 70 S.E.
Whetstone was taken into custody without incident at an address on North Center Street in Hickory. He was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $25,000 secured bond. An appearance in District Court was set for March 23 in Newton.
