43-year-old David Loransa Young of Main Avenue N.W. in Hickory and 23-year-old Daniel Logan Hibbits of Alfalfa Street in Conover have both been arrested by Hickory Police in connection to a case in which checks were stolen from a local business. Young was arrested early Saturday morning (May 24) on one felony count of uttering a forged instrument and Hibbits was arrested yesterday afternoon (May 27) on one felony count of forgery of endorsement.
The case stems from a January 2014 incident in which a 67-year-old Conover man reviewed statements from an account associated with a residential building under construction. He noticed a check out of sequence, and then found four checks missing from the back of his checkbook.
Three of the four checks, totaling just over $1,000, were made out to David Young. The victim said he didn’t know Young.
Hibbits’ connection to the case is unclear, but he turned himself in at H.P.D. headquarters yesterday and was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond. Young was released Saturday on a written promise to appear. Both men are scheduled to appear in court on May 30 in Newton.
