34-year-old Scottie James Hill of Enlos Place in Lenoir has been arrested by Officers with the Morganton Dept. of Public Safety on charges of attempted armed robbery and second-degree kidnapping.
At about 10:40 Monday night (May 26), Officers responded to a call at Fatz Café on South Sterling Street. Officers learned that a white male approached restaurant employees near the back door and pointed a gun at them. The employees were led at gunpoint into the restaurant and to the back office.
The offender, later identified as Scottie James Hill, was wearing a gray shirt wrapped around his head, sunglasses, work gloves and a blue hoodie. An employee told Officers the weapon was an air-soft gun. When Hill attempted to leave, employees grabbed him and held him until Police arrived.
Additional charges are pending. Investigators are looking at the possibility that other recent robberies in Lenoir, Hickory, Caldwell County and Catawba County may be connected to Hill. They are also looking at a May 6 robbery at the Marquee Cinema in Morganton.
Hill was placed in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $200,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to make a first appearance in Burke Co. District Court yesterday (May 27).
Anyone with information regarding the robberies or Scottie Hill should call Crime Stoppers at 828-437-3333.
