Memorial Weekend Highway Fatalities Up Again in N.C.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says 16 motorists died on North Carolina highways during the Memorial Day weekend. During this year’s holiday period, Troopers investigated 16 fatal collisions resulting in 16 deaths.

Among the fatal crashes were accidents on Hurley School Road in Salisbury; on U.S. Highway 74, near Cramerton in Gaston County; on N.C. Highway 115, eight miles north of Statesville; on Pax Hill Road, 4.5 miles north of Morganton; on N.C. Highway 268, 14.7 miles northeast of Lenoir; and on the Bostic Sunshine Highway, about 8.2 miles north of Bostic in Rutherford County.

Last year, the Highway Patrol investigated 14 fatal collisions and 479 injury related collisions during the holiday period.
