26-year-old Adrian Jamar Wells of 10th Avenue S.W. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police at about one o’clock Saturday afternoon for felony common law robbery, assault on a female (two counts), false imprisonment and misdemeanor larceny. He was also charged on a number of outstanding warrants for felony possession of cocaine (three counts), first-degree burglary (two counts), possession of stolen goods or property and resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer.
Wells was arrested after Police responded early Saturday morning to a domestic disturbance at Wells’ residence. He allegedly assaulted his 24-year-old girlfriend, who lives at the same address. During the assault, Wells reportedly jerked the purse from the victim’s shoulder. The purse contained food stamps, a small amount of cash, a TracFone and other items.
The victim was treated for a cut on her chin. Wells was taken into custody without incident at Catawba Valley Memorial Hospital on Fairgrove Church Road.
He was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility where he was held without bond on the assault charge. Bond on the other charges was set at $112,500, secured. District and Superior Court appearances were scheduled for May 30.
