Taylorsville Man Faces Felony Child Abuse Charge

35-year-old Teddy Lee Bentley of Taylorsville has been arrested by Alexander Co. Sheriff’s Officers on one count of felony child abuse inflicting severe physical injury.

Yesterday (January 10), Alexander County Investigators took a report from the Alexander Co. Department of Social Services regarding possible child abuse involving a 13-month-old victim. The incident reportedly occurred the previous day.

The child was seen at the Davis Regional Medical Center’s Carolina Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine unit in Statesville and was then taken to Brenner Children’s Hospital. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and D.S.S. responded to Brenner where they were able to meet with the victim and the victim’s family. The child was treated and released.

The investigation led to Bentley’s arrest. He was taken into custody without incident and placed in the Alexander Co. Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond. Bentley will make a first appearance in District Court on Monday, January 22.
