53-year-old Daniel Urban of Buckbee Road in Statesville was arrested by Iredell County Sheriff's Officers. He's charged with felony habitual assault, assault on a female, and filing a false report to law enforcement.
According to a news release issued Wednesday (December 6), on November 21 Deputies responded to 288 Buckbee Road in reference to a domestic assault. The victim called 911 stating her boyfriend Daniel Urban had assaulted her. Deputies responded and located Urban and the victim at the scene. At the time of their investigation the victim's injuries were not visible. Urban showed the deputies abrasions to his face and arm. Urban told the Deputies that the victim had cut him in the face and arm multiple times with a knife. She was placed under arrest for assault.
The case was forwarded to Detective Sergeant Katie Harwell of the Special Victims Unit for a follow up investigation. Det. Harwell followed up with the victim to see if her injuries had become visible. Harwell noticed obvious bruising and swelling to McConnell’s knee. While Harwell was reviewing the case and comparing the evidence she found Urban’s story to be questionable. Urban was located at his home and was spoken to about the case. While speaking with Urban he admitted that he had intentionally lied to the deputies. Urban stated he lied because he did not want to go back to jail again. Urban stated his injuries actually came from a barbed wire fence and from briars not from an assault.
Det. Harwell discussed the case with the District Attorney’s Office. The victim was released from jail and her charge was dismissed. Urban was arrested and charged on November 22 and given a $15,000.00 secured bond. His next District Court date is December 12.
