Shoplifting Call Leads to Felony Drug Arrest

41-year-old Misty Nicole Brown of Brandywine Drive N.E. in Conover was arrested by Hickory Police at about 1:15 yesterday afternoon (October 10) on one felony count of possession of cocaine and one misdemeanor count each for simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, simple possession of a schedule V controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 35-year-old Jennifer Ann Carswell of Millersville Road in Taylorsville was arrested at the same time on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge.

They were arrested after Hickory Police responded to a shoplifting call at the Dollar General store on Highway 70 S.W. Officers found the suspects, Brown and Carswell, and took them into custody without incident. On Brown’s person, Police found 0.2 grams crack cocaine, 13 dosage units of Clonazepam and drug paraphernalia.

Both women were placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility. Bond for Brown was set at $17,000, secured, while Carswell was given a $2,300 secured bond. Carswell has since been released. Brown was scheduled to appear in District Court today in Newton. Carswell has a court date on November 9.
