24-year-old Donovon Tyrell Lortz of 5th Avenue S.W. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police just before 2 p.m. Friday (September 1) for felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance. He was also arrested on a long list of outstanding warrants. Lortz was wanted on an order for arrest for possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park, plus grand jury indictments on three felony counts each for the sale of cocaine and possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine. He was also wanted on orders for arrest for possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance. In addition, Lortz faces charges for D.W.I. and driving while license revoked.
Some of the charges date back to July of 2016 when Officers saw Lortz, who was wanted on outstanding warrants at that time, in the area of the Hillside Gardens apartment complex on the 800 block of 1st Street S.E. A handgun was found during that July 2016 arrest. He was arrested Friday when Hickory Police responded to reports of a person with outstanding warrants at Hickory’s Valley Hills Mall. Lortz was located and taken into custody without incident. 0.8 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy) were found at that time.
He was jailed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $306,000 secured bond. District Court dates were set for today (September 5) and September 14, with Superior Court dates on October 2 and November 6, all in Newton.
