The City of Morganton's project to replace the basketball courts at Freedom Park has been delayed and is now set to begin next week, May 12 through May 16, weather permitting. The contractor in charge of the project had equipment issues that caused the delay. The courts will be closed once the improvements start.
Johnson Paving & Crushing Co., Inc. of Marion (JPC) was the low bidder for the project at $15,447. JPC will remove approximately 8,435 square feet of old asphalt and install a new surface. City workers will stripe the new court.
Other basketball courts are available at Bethel Park, the Collett Street Recreation Center and the Mountain View Recreation Center.
