20-year-old Kayla Marie Horne of Cedar Brook Drive in Kannapolis was arrested by Iredell County Sheriff's Officers. She's charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.
On August 2 a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s office in reference to a ten-week-old child who had suffered a broken arm. The child was taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center by family members. Medical staff notified the Iredell County Department of Social Services as well as the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. The report was assigned to Detective Sergeant Amy Dyson of the Special Victim’s Unit.
Due to the extent of the child’s injuries, the child was transferred to Levine’s Children’s Hospital at Carolina’s Medical Center. Upon further evaluation, the child was found to have a fractured arm, a healing fracture on the other arm, and three healing rib fractures. Several additional witnesses were identified and interviewed, and as a result of the investigation Horne was arrested and charged.
Horne was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where her bond was set at $125,000 secured. She's scheduled to appear in District Court August 28.
