The City of Morganton will continue its water tank maintenance project Monday (May 12). The Grandview water tank located at the intersection of NC 126 and Frank Whisnant Road will be taken out of service and refurbished during the next three to four weeks.
The renovation is part of the City of Morganton Water Resources Department's water tank maintenance program, which started last year. Utility Service Group (USG) has been contracted to perform the renovations.
Water Resources Director Brad Boris said there should not be any water pressure issues caused by the maintenance, but if customers do experience problems, they should contact the Water Resources Department at 828-438-5276.
USG has renovated four City of Morganton water tanks, to date. Those include the two tanks on Piney Road in Caldwell County, the Oak Hill water tank on New Lane in Morganton and the Astro Drive water tank off Salem Road.
The city operates 11 water storage tanks as part of its water system. Five tanks will be refurbished during the current phase. The remaining six will be refurbished during a later phase.
The Water Resources Department has $283,000 budgeted for water tank refurbishment this fiscal year. The work on the Grandview tank will cost $32,000.
