HPD Makes 2 Felony & 2 Misdemeanor Drug Arrests

24-year-old Evelyn Stephanie Palacious of 19th Avenue N.E. in Hickory was arrested at about 6:30 yesterday morning (May 1) on felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of cocaine, as well as misdemeanor counts for simple possession of schedule II and schedule III controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Also arrested just after midnight today (May 2) in connection to the same case were Ia Vang, Chang Cheng Vang and Ashley Nicole Gunter, all of the same 19th Avenue N.E. address. Ia Vang was charged with felony maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance, while the other two suspects were charged with misdemeanor counts for possession of marijuana up to half an ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hickory Police went to the residence to speak to Palacious early yesterday. When Chang Vang answered the door, Officers detected the strong odor of marijuana. Ia Vang, who is the homeowner, gave consent to search, leading to the discovery of 298 grams of marijuana one gram of cocaine, as well as two Clonazepam pills and two Acetaminophen pills with Hydrocodone. Palacious took responsibility for the drugs and was taken into custody without incident.

Police obtained a search warrant for some of the rooms within the residence, which were occupied by renters. When Officers returned later in the day to execute the warrant, Ia Vang was arrested for maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and the other suspects were booked on the misdemeanor charges.

After their arrests, all four subjects were taken to the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond for Palacious set at $25,000, secured. Ia Vang was given a $4,000 secured bond, while Chang Vang and Ashley Gunter each had bond set at $800, secured. All four have since been released. Palacious was scheduled to make a first appearance in Superior Court today in Newton. Ia Vang will appear Monday in District Court in Newton. Chang Vang and Gunter both have District Court dates on June 11 in Hickory.
