Newton Man Jailed on Felony Counterfeiting Charges

32-year-old Cory Andrew “Lucky” Hartness of Weidner Road in Newton was arrested by Hickory Police late last night (May 18) on one felony count each of possession of a counterfeit instrument and uttering a counterfeit instrument, plus one misdemeanor count of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.

He was arrested after Hickory Police responded to Kickback Jacks on Lenoir-Rhyne Boulevard S.E. in reference to a subject passing counterfeit money at the restaurant.  The suspect, Cory Hartness, was arrested on the scene.  During the booking process, two Xanax pills were found on his person.

Hartness was taken into custody without incident at about 11:35 last night.  He was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $5,500, secured.  He’ll make a first appearance in District Court Monday (May 22) in Newton.
