43-year-old Wanda Ann Sukeforth of 13th Avenue N.E. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police at about 3:40 yesterday afternoon (April 15) on one felony count of larceny by servant or employee.
Sukeforth was a manager at the Cupboard Express store on 16th Street N.E. Events leading to her arrest began when the store’s regional offices noticed some shortages in the inventory. An audit indicated that money was missing from the A.T.M. at the store. The amount was said to be less than $2,000.
Sukeforth told authorities someone else was in the office when she was counting money and was responsible for the missing funds. Management maintains that Sukeforth was the only person with access to both keys needed to gain access to the cash.
She had managed the store for seven or eight years without any previous issues.
After her arrest, Sukeforth was released under a $2,500 unsecured bond. She was scheduled to make a first appearance in District Court today in Newton.
