56-year-old Gary Dan Barnes of 15th Avenue N.W. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police early this morning (April 16) on two felony counts of forgery of an instrument.
He was arrested after a 65-year-old Hickory woman reported that two checks were stolen from her residence. The checks were made out to Barnes and cashed in January at the Fast-N-Fresh and at the Shiv Mart in Hickory. The checks were written for what was described as a minimal amount.
The victim was acquainted with Barnes, who had done some maintenance work for her since January of 2012.
After his arrest, Barnes was taken to the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $10,000, secured. He was scheduled to make a first appearance in District Court today in Newton.
