17-year-old Andrade Mario Orozco of 13th Avenue N.E. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police at about 11:30 Saturday night (April 12) on one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor failure to stop for a siren.
He was arrested after a fight was reported at the Spring Carnival at Hickoryâ€™s Valley Hills Mall. Two off-duty Hickory Police Officers chased Orozco into the parking lot where he got into his vehicle and fled, striking one of the Officers in the process. The Officer was not seriously injured.
Orozco was stopped a short time later and taken into custody without further incident on Hileman Street, just off of Startown Road.
Two others were charged with misdemeanor offenses. A 16-year-old male was charged with resisting, but he was released after the Magistrate found no probable cause. A 20-year-old male was charged with resisting and disorderly conduct. He was taken to the Catawba Co. Detention Facility and released on a $500 secured bond.
Orozco was also taken to the Detention Facility under a $25,000 secured bond. He has since been released. He was scheduled to make a first appearance in District Court today (April 14) in Hickory.
