The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced several appointments to the Governor’s Crime Commission today (April 2).
Among them are Hickory Chief of Police Tom Adkins and the Honorable Miles Atkins, who is the Mayor of Mooresville in Iredell County.
The Governor’s Crime Commission (GCC) serves as the chief advisory body to the governor and the secretary of Public Safety on crime and justice issues. The commission’s chief initiatives include safer schools, gang prevention & intervention, partnership with veterans and ongoing support for local law enforcement through a strengthened local law enforcement block grant program.
The commission has 42 members, including leaders of criminal justice & human services agencies, representatives from the courts, law enforcement, local government, the General Assembly and private citizens.
The term length is three years.
