Lenoir-Rhyne Football Revises Schedule, Drops St. Augustine's Contest

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Football Team has re-released its 2020 schedule following a modification due to COVID-19. The 10 game slate kicks off on September 12th when the Bears host Virginia Union. Originally, the season was set to open on September 5th but the NCAA reduced the maximum number of competitions from 11 to 10 so the Bears will no longer be taking on St. Augustine's.

Post game fireworks are scheduled to take place following the season opener against Virginia Union (weather dependent) as LR opens the 101st season in program history and first under Mike Jacobs.

South Atlantic Conference play takes up eight of the final nine weeks of the season as LR will put a 15-game regular season conference winning streak on the line. In total, LR has won 17 straight games against league foes with wins over Carson-Newman and Wingate in the NCAA Playoffs over the past two years.

The Bears will travel to Newberry on September 19 and then host Mars Hill in the SAC home opener on September 26. Over the course of the final six weeks, LR will travel to Carson-Newman (October 17) and Wingate (October 31).

The only non-conference opponent after week one is Barton on November 7. The Bulldogs haven't had a football program since the 1950s but are restarting the program with 2020 being their first year of competition. The Bears are 9-0 all-time against Barton (previously known as Atlantic Christian) and this will mark the first meeting since 1950.

Senior Day and the regular season finale will be on November 14 as Catawba is welcomed between the bricks. The Bears and Indians have met in the final game of the regular season every year since 1973 and this will mark the 100th meeting between the two rivals.

LR will be defending two straight South Atlantic Conference Championships in 2020.
