The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team was well represented on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. The Bears are the only team in the South Atlantic Conference with two representatives as Abigael McGarel and Hannah Van Eerden earned a spot on the District 3 First Team.
McGarel has a 3.92 grade point average and is majoring in Sports Management. The senior has helped the Bears to a SAC Regular Season Championship and a No. 8 national ranking. The Morristown, Tenn. native has seven goals and 14 points while starting all 16 games for LR this season.
Van Eerden also owns a 3.92 GPA with a major in Elementary Special Education. Van Eerden is second on the team with 10 goals and 25 points and netted a hat trick against USC Aiken earlier this season.
District 3, comprised of the Peach Belt, Conference Carolinas, and the South Atlantic Conference, had 12 spots to fill, eight of which were claimed by the SAC.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
