The 27th United Way Cross Country Invitational was held Wednesday at Southside Park in Newton. Nearly 800 runners competed in the five races and heard an inspirational message from Dave Clark, a polio victim who is the only person to pitch professional baseball on crutches (10 years).

Patton finished second in the men’s invitational, and St. Stephens won the men’s championship with a score of 58. Tyler Christensen of St. Stephens was the top runner in the men’s championship, finishing with a time of 16:35.
