Appalachian State volleyball overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat ETSU 3-2 in an exhibition contest on Friday evening.
After dropping the opening set 25-21 and the second 25-22, the Mountaineers stormed back to win the final three sets by 25-17, 25-22 and 15-13 scores.
Three Mountaineers posted double digit kills in the win. Victoria Wilform tallied 17 kills, Kara Spicer added 12 on .647 hitting mark and Grace Morrison added 10 kills.
Sam Bickley dished out 53 assists and Emma Reilly reached double digit digs with 20.
After falling behind 2-0, App State scored nine straight points to take a commanding 16-7 lead in Set 3 and never looked back, taking the set 25-17 to force a fourth set.
In Set 4, the Black and Gold broke a 20-20 tie with a pair of errors from the Buccaneers. Leading 23-21, ETSU went on the attack. Bickley dove and deflected the ball towards Grace Kinsch, who then kicked the ball over the net for a kill to make the score 24-21. The Black and Gold went on to win the set 25-22.
In the fifth set, the Black and Gold broke a 5-5 tie with three consecutive points. App State opened a commanding 14-9 lead, only to see ETSU cut the lead to one at 14-13. Wilform clinched the comeback victory with her 17th kill of the evening.
App State shifts its focus to the regular season and will begin play on Aug. 30 at the Cactus Classic hosted by Arizona. The Mountaineers will battle the 24th ranked Wildcats at noon EST and Samford at 6:30 p.m. EST on Aug. 30 and take on Loyola Marymount at noon EST on Aug. 31.
