The Hickory Crawdads defeated the Lexington Legends Tuesday night on the road, 7-5. Hickory jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led 7-3 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, and hung on for the win.
Melvin Novoa went three-for-four batting with three runs scored and three RBI. He had a pair of home runs, one in the second inning and another in the eighth inning to give some insurance for the Crawdads. His other hit was for a double. Pedro Gonzalez and Matt Whatley each had two hits with a run scored.
Crawdads starter Hans Crouse picked up his fifth win of the season with six innings pitched, allowing seven hits and three runs, but striking out six and walking only one. Sam Hellinger pitched two innings for Hickory, alloing two runs on a hit and striking out four. Lucas Jacobsen got his first save of the season allowing only a walk in the ninth inning.
The Crawdads are 29-21 on the second half of the season. Hickory wraps up their series at Lexington Wednesday before traveling to South Carolina to take on the Greenville Drive Thursday through Sunday. The Crawdads are back at home on Tuesday, August 20th.
