The Catawba Valley Community College softball program announces the signing of South Caldwell standout Katie Wright on Friday.
“Katie brings a ton of big game experience and knowing how to win to our team,” said CVCC head softball coach Josh Bumgarner. “She’s a solid first basemen who carries a big bat. We are very excited to have her coming to the Valley.”
A senior utility player for the 2019 4A state champion Spartans, Wright scored 20 runs and drove in 18 RBI during her senior campaign, posting a .309 on-base percentage.
She finished her South Caldwell softball career with 88 games played, 73 hits (11 doubles, one triple, five home runs), 49 runs scored and 70 RBI, while posting a .308 career batting average.
During her time with the Spartans, Wright was part of teams that went 46-12 during her two seasons, including a state championship this spring and a state runner-up as a junior in 2018.
An All-Northwestern 3A/4A performer this spring on the diamond, Wright is a two-sport athlete who also participated in volleyball at South Caldwell.
Wright joins a group of 15 signees for the inaugural season of Red Hawk softball, which starts championship contention in the spring of 2020.
