The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams traveled to Winston Salem, N.C. to take part in what is the beginning of the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday, and upon the conclusion of two-day competition the Bears are off to a fast start.
In the women's pentathlon among SAC competitors, Savannah Watkins finished second with 3,031 points, Destiny Gayton competed her way to the fifth spot with 2,740 points accumulated and Leona Medley rounds out the list with an eighth place finish with 2,548 points. Competing but not scoring were Essence Newkirk and Lacey Triplett.
For the men's Heptathlon, Anthony Brown was the only scorer, finishing fourth place among SAC competition with 4,538 points, breaking five personal records in the process. Competing but not scoring for the men were Kaleb Davis, Deandre Jackson, Chris Norman and Stephen Carpenter.
Watkins and Brown hold the school records in their events respectively.
As a result of the ladies finishing with the previously mentioned marks, the Bears will carry with them 13 points and the men will arrive with five of their own to add to the teams' overall scores in the SAC Championship set to take place in Winston Salem, N.C. on Feb. 23-24.
