After putting forth her best Sun Belt performance of the season, Appalachian State University women's basketball redshirt senior Madi Story (Maiden, N.C./Bandys) was named College Sports Madness' Sun Belt Player of the Week, announced on Monday.
Story poured in a game-high 26 points on 10-for-20 shooting with a season-high four 3-pointers. The redshirt-senior also played a key cog in holding the Sun Belt's second-leading scorer, D.J. Williams, to 15 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field. She added six rebounds in the Mountaineers' 67-53 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
Appalachian surpassed last season's win total with the victory and improved to 7-1 at home this season.
The Maiden, N.C., native scored 15 of her points in the second half, including 11 in the fourth quarter. With Coastal Carolina holding a 44-43 lead going into the final period, Story spearheaded an 11-3 charge in the first 4:03 of the frame with three trifectas to give App a commanding eight-point lead.
Story scored at least 20 points for the third time this season and hit double figures for the ninth time. App State is 7-2 in those games while the Mountaineers are 5-0 when she scores at least 10 points and grabs five boards.
Earlier this season, Story became the 25th member of the 1,000-point club when she scored a season-high 28 points against Wofford. She is currently 21st all-time in school history in scoring with 1,058 points. Story is averaging 11.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
Story and the Apps will look to continue their solid play on Thursday when they host Arkansas State at 6:30 p.m.
