The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper named Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball's John Grigg as a member of the Southeast Region Player to Watch on the mound, as well as 2018 signee E.J. Ranel as a Southeast Region Newcomer to Watch.
Grigg, a Lawndale, N.C. native, shined for the Bears in his sophomore campaign on the hill, leading the South Atlantic Conference in wins, and was third in earned run average while being named to the 2018 SAC Gold Glove Team. The RHP played his way onto the All-SAC and North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) second teams.
Ranel, an outfielder that hails from Lawrenceville, Ga. and transferred in from Chattahoochie Valley Community College, comes in as a part of a nationally-heralded signing class that finished as high as No. 4 in the nation according to Perfect Game. Ranel managed to lead his team with a .458 batting average through 47 games including 20 home runs and 70 Runs Batted In.
Players from nine different SAC programs were among the three squads with Newberry leading the way with three players selected. Anderson, Catawba, Coker, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial, Mars Hill and Wingate had two players each, while Tusculum rounded out the selections with one.
The 2019 campaign begins with a road trip to Rollins College with a three-game series February 1-3.
