Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Signs Seven Players

Softball Head Coach Shena Hollar has announced the 2019 signees for the Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team.

The signees include:

Lauren Rakes, a pitcher from Hamptonville, N.C. Rakes will be graduating from East Wilkes HS in the spring. She currently plays for the Firecrackers Travel Team under coach Zach Wright. Discussing Rakes, Coach Hollar stated, "I am very excited with the addition of Lauren Rakes to our pitching staff. She has all the tools to make an impact next year and could also be a threat in the lineup."

Morgan Beeler, a pitcher from Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. Beeler will be graduating from West Brunswick HS in the spring. She currently plays for the Carolina Flames Travel Team under coaches James Barrington and James Batten. Discussing Beeler, Coach Hollar stated, "Morgan will be a key piece in our rotation. Morgan's size is deceiving, she packs a punch on the mound. We have had a lot of players from the Flames organization."

Lora Beth Wood, a first-baseman from Madison, N.C. Wood will be graduating from North Stokes in the spring. She currently plays for the Carolina Cardinals under coach Rick McHone and will be joining former teammates Kylee Leonhardt and Savannah Moorefield here at LR. Discussing Wood, Coach Hollar stated, "Lora Beth brings a powerful bat and an exceptional glove at first base. She plays travel ball for the three-time defending ASA National Champions Carolina Cardinals coached by Rick McHone."

Taylor Hammett, a catcher/first-baseman from Oxford, N.C. Hammett will be graduating from JF Webb HS in the spring. She currently plays for the NC Dominators Travel Team under coaches Jackie Day and Mark Holder. Discussing Hammett, Coach Hollar stated, "Taylor joins her sister on our team. She will add power to our lineup. She is versatile in that she can catch and play first base for us."

Sisters Lexi and Alexis Phillips, utility players form Greenville, N.C. The Phillips sisters will be graduating from DH Conley in the spring. They currently play for the Wildcard Travel Team under coach Junior Pierce. Discussing the sisters, Coach Hollar stated, "We are getting a dynamic duo with this pair of sisters. They bring lots of energy to the field. These two can play anywhere and both have solid bats."

Anna Blume, a utility player from Landis, N.C. Blume will be graduating from South Rowan in the spring. She currently plays for the Extreme Performance Travel Team. Discussing Blume, Coach Hollar stated, Anna can play multiple positions for us. She will add depth in various positions.

On all recruits, Coach Hollar commented, "I'm really excited about this class after watching them play all summer and fall. We picked up two really good pitchers to join our staff and also added infielders and multipurpose players to make us deeper in all faucets of the game. Bear fans will enjoy seeing these newcomers play the game."
