The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team went head-to-head with another top-10 foe in the region, Limestone, but fell on the road, 2-1, in the nonconference battle on Wednesday night.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored first with a goal from senior leader Abbie Brown, but the Saints scored two unanswered goals to hand the Bears their first road loss of the season.
The Bears were outshot 19-8(11-3 on goal), were even in corner opportunities(5-5) but were called for fewer fouls than the home team, 12-10.
Senior Loren Sterling managed to give up only two goals despite the accuracy of the Saints' shots tonight. The LR keeper managed to record nine saves, which ties her season and career-high but her record fell on the season, reflecting the overall team record, 7-4-1.
Brown's goal in the first half put her in double-digits for the season with 10 goals, leading the team. She has now scored 17 goals in her career after recording seven in the 2017 campaign.
This marks the first road loss for LR, leaving their mark at 6-1-1 for the season away from the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex. LR's nonconference mark has fallen to 2-2 and are on a two-game losing streak heading into homecoming weekend.
The Bears topped Limestone in the 2017 season opener by a final score of 1-0 in overtime in Hickory.
LR is 7-4-1 on the season. They will return home for a homecoming weekend match against South Atlantic Conference foe, Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
