Lenoir-Rhyne University has announced the hiring of Allison Luthman as Assistant Athletic Director for Creative & Digital Media. This is a brand new position for LR Athletics that’s main purpose will be to enhance the video and creative capabilities across all platforms.
Luthman comes to LR after serving as an On-Air Reporter and Production Assistant for WHVL-TV in State College, Penn. and also was a contributor for SB Nation’s Swish Appeal. While working at WHVL-TV, the Ball State University graduate pitched, wrote, created and curated content in the form of packages and graphics. She also contributed to a weekly show focused on Penn State football in the form of on-air talent, filming, writing, building graphics and editing. Some of her other recent contributions include being a sideline reporter for Spikes Minor League Baseball and local high school football, along with creating promotions and commercials for clients and contracted programming such as MyNetwork TV, 20th Century Fox and the ACC Network.
In addition, Luthman generated timely and compelling news articles and press releases concerning NBA, WNBA and NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball. She would write accurate and captivating recaps of games, media days and press conferences through remote and on-site coverage while also utilizing social media platforms.
“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to be a part of the Lenoir-Rhyne family,” Luthman said. “I look forward to getting to know the community and all the exceptional LR student-athletes. There is a great story to be told at LR and I am eager to help share that message.”
This position will require successful execution in planning, developing and administering all aspects of the digital and creative part of the Lenoir-Rhyne Department of Athletics including overseeing radio and web live streams, in-house video boards and displays, digital social media strategy and the creative development of mobile and video content for all communication platforms. The position will be vital to helping build the brand of LR Athletics alongside Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions, Aaron Bessey.
“We couldn’t be happier with the addition of Allison to our Bears Family,” Bessey said. “With the landscape of college athletics becoming increasingly digital and creative focused, we feel strongly that the hiring of Allison will be instrumental in telling our story and pushing us closer towards the top of D-II.”
Luthman graduated from Ball State University in May of 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism/Telecommunications with a focus in Digital Sports Production/News. As a student, she managed to gain experience in multiple ways, including: as a sideline reporter and color commentator for the ESPN3 Ball State productions, social media curator for the NCAA Basketball Tournament, commonly known as “March Madness”, and was a member of the Ball State Sports Link, where she produced an Emmy-awarded television series featuring the men’s basketball team.
