The Hickory Crawdads defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-1 Monday night on the road. Hickory scored a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pick up the win. In addition, the Crawdads pitching staff limited Delmarva to four hits on the night. Crawdads starter Tyler Phillips pitched seven innings, allowing three hits, one run and struck out 11.
A pair of Crawdads players had three hits. Miguel Aparicio, batting third in the lineup, went three-for-five with a run scored and an RBI. Ryan Dorow, batting cleanup, also went three-for-five with a run scored, with a triple, a home run and two RBI. He fell a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
Pedro Gonzalez went two-for-five with a double, a triple and two RBI. Tyreque Reed went two-for-four with a run scored. Bubba Thompson and Clayton Middleton were the other Crawdads players to score in the win.
Hickory goes to 9-9 on the second half of the season. Hickory is off tonight and back at home tomorrow when they host the West Virginia Power for the start of a three-game homestand.
