A day after sweeping the Greensboro Grasshoppers in a doubleheader, the Hickory Crawdads give up two on the road. Hickory fell 7-5 in game one and 13-4 in game two.
In game one, Hickory jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the third inning. The Grasshoppers tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth. However, in the fifth inning, Hickory retook the lead with a Preston Scott solo home run. But the Grasshoppers would score five in the bottom half of the fifth and Hickory would not be able to recover.
Clayton Middleton led the Crawdads at the plate in game one. He went one-for-four with a double that scored two.
In game two, Greensboro scored 10 runs in the first inning, putting the game out of reach early. Tyreque Reed went three-for-three with a run scored for Hickory despite the setback.
Hickory falls to 28-36 on the first half of the season. The Crawdads will wrap up their series against Greensboro on Thursday and travel to New Jersey over the weeekend to play the Lakewood BlueClaws to end the first half of the season.
