Noah McRae, a member of the Lenoir-Rhyne Swimming Team, was named as a second team member of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Men’s and Women’s At-Large teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday.
McRea, a senior from Hickory, N.C., graduated this past May with a bachelor's degree in psychology while carrying a grade point average of 3.98.
The Hickory native leaves Lenoir-Rhyne as one of the best swimmers in school history. McRea holds program marks in the 500-yard freestyle (4:35.92), 50-yard backstroke (24.83), 100-yard backstroke (52.25) and 400-yard individual medley (3.57.43).
McRea earned 2018 All-Bluegrass Mountain Conference honors in the 500-yard freestyle and his time in the 400-yard IM was good enough to earn NCAA Division II "B" cut qualifying. In addition, McRea earned league men's swimmer-of-the-week accolades twice this season.
He was also part of four school-record relay teams: 200-yard freestyle (1:26.11), 200-yard medley relay (1:36.06), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:09.77) and 800-yard freestyle relay (6:49.14).
In the classroom, McRea was the 2016-17 Dr. Rufus L. Moretz Bears Club Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year which is given annually to the Lenoir-Rhyne student-athletes with the highest grade point averages. McRea is also a 2016-17 honorable mention CSCAA Scholar All-American.
The Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
The at-large program for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
