The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women’s Outdoor Track and Field squad put five student-athletes on the 2018 USTFCCCA NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Team. USTFCCCA is the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Senior Haylea Salamon (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, CANADA) earned all-region honors for the Bears in both the shot put and discus. Salamon is a now a four-time All-Southeast Region selection (2015-18) who established a new school-record in the shot put (40’9”) this year in addition to the season-best discus throw (150’1”) this past weekend at Mount Olive Last Chance Meet.
Salamon, a 2015 NCAA Division II All-American in the discus, won the event at the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championship for the third time in her career. Salamon is a two-time SAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Year (2015-16).
Salamon also holds the program record in the discus (154’11”).
Sophomore Autumn Drayton (Charlotte, N.C.) earned All-Southeast Region honors in the discus as well for the second straight year. Drayton’s throw of 145’9” ranks third-best all-time in school history.
Junior Paiton Fair (Newton, N.C.), a three-time all-region honoree (2016-18), earned recognition this year in the 800-meter run for the Bears. Fair also established a new school record this past weekend, besting her own mark with a 2:11.73. Fair also finished third at the league championships in the 800-meter run.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Saidah Hardwick (Rolesville, N.C.) won the 400-meter dash at the 2018 SAC Championship in Charlotte, N.C., and owns the school-record (56.15). For her efforts, Hardwick earned All-Southeast Region honors in the event.
Junior Savannah Drummonds (Palm Coast, Fla.) earned USTFCCCA D-II All-Southeast Region accolades in women’s outdoor track and field in the pole vault for the third consecutive year for the Bears. Drummonds established the new program mark in the event (11’7”) this year and finished second at the league championships last month.
The top-five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions’ top-three relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the indoor track & field season.
