The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Team (5-7, 5-0) remained unbeaten in South Atlantic Conference play with a 16-4 victory over Mars Hill (2-8, 0-5) Wednesday afternoon at Meares Stadium.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior attacker Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) led the way with a game-high six goals while junior midfielder Rachel Elmore (White Plains, Md.) scored four times as the Bears raced to a 12-2 halftime advantage on their way to the easy victory.
LR sophomore attacker Cathleen Gaffney (Allentown, Pa.) dished out five assists for the Bears, who held advantages in both shots taken (22-14) and ground balls (26-11). Lenoir-Rhyne senior All-American goalkeeper Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) made three saves and picked up the win.
For Mars Hill, Olivia Hokanson (Crofton, Md.) scored her team-leading 37th goal of the year but Alexandria Holleran (Hendersonville, Tenn.) suffered the loss in goal despite five stops.
Sousa now has a team-leading 40 goals on the year – which ranks third in the league – while Elmore has 31 scores for the Bears.
LR is tied with Catawba for first place in the league standings.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to take on Lincoln Memorial on Senior Day in a South Atlantic Conference game Saturday beginning at 4pm.
