Appalachian State Field Hockey Announces Signing of Eight Student-Athletes

Appalachian State University head field hockey coach Meghan Dawson officially announced the signing of eight student-athletes to the 2018 class.

 

The incoming class features student-athletes from six different states, including Kentucky, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

 

"I am extremely excited to introduce our recruting class for 2018," head coach Meghan Dawson said. "This class is extremely diverse on the field bringing different talents and skill sets. It is exciting to see where this class will stand within our current group."

 

Mikayla Barrow • F • Hatfield, Pa.
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner in field hockey at North Penn High School in Lansdale, Pa. … scored 44 career goals and recorded 16 assists … coached by Shannon McCracken … named first team all-conference as a junior and second team all-conference as a senior … selected as North Penn’s Most Improved Player as a sophomore … also earned four letters in lacrosse … played club field hockey for the FSC Falcons … named the PhilaFieldHockey Attacker of the Week twice … as a member of the FSC Falcons U16 team, won the National Indoor Tournament J Pool Championship in 2016 and the Junior Premier Indoor League Championship in 2015 … her U19 team qualified for the 2017 National Club Championship.

 

PERSONAL: Full name is Mikayla Cora Barrow … daughter of Kelly and Doug Barrow … born Feb. 14, 2000 (18 years old) … has two siblings, Cassidy (21) and Kolby (16) … major is undecided.

HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year member of the First Colonial High School field hockey team in Virginia Beach, Va. … played in the Virginia 6A State Finals all four years, winning a state championship in 2015 … on a team that was ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25 all four years … coached by Beanie Schleicher … also played club field hockey for the Saints Hockey Rocks under head coach Scotty Tyson … helped lead the Rocks to a No. 1 national ranking by Max Field Hockey in August 2017.

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned four varsity letters in field hockey at Cardinal Gibbons High School … a three-year starter for the Crusaders that tallied 25 goals and 34 assists over four seasons … named to the NCHSAA 4A all-state team as a senior … made first-team all-conference as a sophomore, junior and senior … nominated for and played in the North Carolina All-Star game as a freshman, sophomore and senior … served as team captain during her senior year … also received four letters in track and field … also played club field hockey for the Carolina All Stars under coach Grant Fulton … competed in the USAFH National Indoor Tournament in 2018 and 2017 … finished first in her team’s respective bracket at the NFHCA U19 Spring Fling in 2017 … helped lead the All Stars to a second place finish at the USAFH Presidents Day U19 Showcase in 2017 … played club field hockey alongside fellow 2018 signee Ines Yofre.
