Coming off the heels of a successful Valley Invitational, the Catawba Valley Community College volleyball team moved up in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II rankings on Tuesday.
The Red Hawks, who were ranked 17th in last week’s Division II poll, moved up five spots to No. 12 in this week’s rankings. This is the second-highest that the program has been ranked this season behind only its fourth-place rank to start the season.
During this past weekend’s Valley Invitational, CVCC had a strong showing, defeating previously 12th-ranked Pasco-Hernando (Fla.) in a thrilling five-set match. The Bobcats dropped to No. 15 in this week’s poll.
Catawba Valley also played well in the tournament against No. 1 Owens, taking a set off the top-ranked Express before falling 3-1. The Red Hawks finished the tournament 2-2 overall, including a 3-2 victory against St. Clair County (Mich.) and a tough 3-0 loss against Division I Wallace State (Ala.).
The CVCC volleyball team is currently 17-5 on the season and 9-0 in conference play as it heads into this weekend’s Wallace State Fall Bash in Hanceville, Ala.
